Getting Started with Your Ledger Hardware Wallet — Secure, Manage, and Grow Your Digital Assets
Ledger gives you the freedom to control your cryptocurrencies with world-class security. The Ledger hardware wallet and Ledger Live app work together to protect your Bitcoin, Ethereum, NFTs, and more under a single, secure roof.
This guide will walk you through how to set up your device safely, install Ledger Live, and make your first transaction — all directly from the official Ledger.com/Start® page.
Inside your box, you’ll find your Ledger Nano device, USB cable, and recovery sheets. Ensure the box is sealed and untampered — authenticity is key to your security. Avoid purchasing from third-party sources and always verify the Ledger logo hologram.
Connect your Ledger to your computer or mobile device. Power it on and follow the on-screen instructions to create a PIN code. This PIN protects your device from unauthorized access — keep it private and never share it with anyone.
Ledger will generate a 24-word recovery phrase — the only way to restore your wallet if your device is lost or damaged. Write it down on the provided recovery sheet and store it in a secure, offline location. Never store it digitally or share it online.
Go to Ledger.com/Start® to download the official Ledger Live app. It’s available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. Ledger Live is your command center — install apps for supported coins, check your balance, and send or receive crypto securely.
Once connected, open Ledger Live and add accounts for the cryptocurrencies you own. Each crypto requires a specific app installed on your device. Confirm all actions directly on your Ledger screen — if you didn’t approve a transaction there, it won’t happen.
With setup complete, you can now send, receive, and monitor your crypto portfolio directly from Ledger Live. Explore features like Staking for passive income, or connect your Ledger to Web3 apps for decentralized finance — always with hardware-backed protection.
